Looks like a cool device... I immediately thought of Mick using this... so his 80's guitar anthems can  now be accompanied by big-hair synth sounds - move over Duran Duran!  ;D ... Hmm... maybe Spiral as well... I reckon he's a closet synthophile :)

In case you're wondering (like I was) the name is derived from the fact that theres a guitar-mounted switch unit which allows the musician to play full guitar, full synth, or a blend of the two. This isn't mentioned until towards the last third of the clip.

The device works on all three desktop platforms (Windows, OSX, Linux) and iOS.

MusicRadar review here

Musician's Friend has them listed at US$399.95 and Au$475.00 but they won't ship to Oz.... phewww.... Only one Aussie dealer on eBay.au and it's Au$579.00 !!! However they are available ex-US on eBay with some ludicrous postage charges amongst them.
Checked out musicstore.com, a German online store, 499 Euros.

Very neat gadget  ;) here's another

 http://haightashburymusic.com/roland-gr20-guitar-synthesizer-with-gk3-divided-pickup-factory-repack.html?gclid=CNeS4oHp37sCFSho7Aod4QoAcg

Now that one's nice because it doesn't need a PC, although I'm a little surprised it doesn't have USB audio and the option to send/recieve MIDI over USB... a "real" guitarist's tool from that perspective, I suppose, given the near Luddite-angst demonstrated by some over anything which connects a guitar to a computer :)

While I think about it, I do have the original topic in the right board don't I?
Being a computer interface for a guitar, even though it's MIDI it seems it's wireless USB MIDI and that restricts it to computers (unless anyone knows of any hardware synths which (1) can act as a USB-host and (2) that the class-compliant status works with that device).
Or is it actually guitar hardware?!?

Getting the midi data into a sequencer to start with, makes the Triple Play a great tool.

Reminded me that I still have one of these in storage somewhere.  Bought one when they first came out.  Nothing great, but had fun back then playing with it.

Damn, that's cool!
I would hold onto that, could be worth some money as it is "vintage" now. There's a Flight of the Conchords song that uses the mandolin setting.

Apparently, they're using the DG-20, but has the same mandolin setting. :)

Hadn't seen that one, Spiral, thanks.  Amazing what talented people can do with so little isn't it?   :P

I changes the original title because I can't see there being too much point separating these announcements, nor does thetopic warrant it's own board... ( although a generic MIDI Controllers board, perhaps?)

This particular post is about a crowd-funded device called Jamstix, by a firm out of Minnesota. Not cheap at a projected US$300.00, however, it doesn't pretend to be the definitive guitar-like replacement which is all you'll ever need, but rather (1) play synths in a way you are familiar with and (b) learn basic guitar techniques so that maybe you can one day can justify that four or five figure instrument, for which, anything less is often dismissed by "real" players
(surely you've read other music forums and the trash-talk that these kind of wankers post?):

Quote
I already have guitars I love, I already know how to play, others have tried to do what you're claiming to do…

That's awesome! We have guitars we love too, some of us here at Zivix play guitar professionally - and JamStik is still one of our favorite guitar tools!

Why? Because there are many places where you have to spend time that a guitar doesn't fit - long van rides to gigs, Seat 8B on a 737, hotel rooms, we could go on and on. What used to be wasted time can now be musically constructive time!

But the main reason we love the JamStik is - IT WORKS! The technique you use to play your Tele or Les Paul translates back to the JamStik - simple instinctive guitar technique like STRING BENDS - you can do on a JamStik! This is not some goofy membrane/switch/divided-fret device - it's REAL STRINGS, REAL FRETS, for your REAL PLAYING!

Just in case the whole "MIDI" word threw you for a loop, just remember - this is NOT your uncle's MIDI'd guitar. JamStik works CRAZY FAST to turn what your hands are playing into MIDI so all of the cool options your keyboard playing buddies have had for decades are finally at your disposal too!

and my favourite quote from a reviewer:

Quote
“Relax, elitist musicians. It’s a fun thing. Yes, great, you play guitar. Don’t be a *ick about it.” -Horace Shmorace, MTV Networks
