With a decent FTP program (I use "Core FTP") it's kind of easy to check and see if any files on the site have been updated that shouldn't have been just by checking the file dates...

Ag, I did find one of the forum files that had a modification date of just a few months ago, which it shouldn't have.  So I checked and it had a hack line in it.  I took that out, and just waited to see if it helped at all...

That would be nice, Ag.  Better than our 3 more feet in the last 2 days and 40-45 mph winds to drift and bank.  Big drifts and half frozen.  Lucky I hired a plow guy this year (last fall)...

What I learnt today from YouTube
« on: December 24, 2013, 11:03:56 AM »
Hack #4 - I knew of Power over Ethernet (PoE) - it's been employed heavily by the company I've been seconded to, typically for powering TCP/IP video cameras - but I've never gone out of my way to understand it.

This video leads you through a thumbnail history of computer communications then starts with the "so what can we do with an ethernet cable". Now I get PoE, I may just look at finally setting up the IP camera I bought a while back for $50.00 :)

Hey, I'm only posting these videos because I know that anyone along the lattitude from Joomland going north may find themselves snow-bound and bored crapless by merry frickin' xmas elves... :)

Great video explaining this stuff for people who always wondered, S.

PoE is very handy.  I keep a few spare PoE injectors and splitters in the drawer, some of our security cameras and our wireless internet modem (sits on top of the house) are powered by PoE.

One thing the guy didn't mention (or I missed it) is that you can also use the spare wires for telephone use, so run one Cat5-6 cable for both network and phone.

And he did say that telephone wire has 6 individual wires, though a lot of installations (especially older ones) only have 2 wire cables.

I like these things, good explanations for curious people.  Thank ya Sir...

"These gloves will change the way we make music" - Imogen Heap
« Reply #2 on: April 04, 2014, 02:49:32 PM »

... musician Imogen Heap demonstrates the electronic gloves that allow people to interact with their computer remotely via hand gestures.

The interview was filmed at Heap's home studio outside London, shortly before she launched her Kickstarter campaign to produce a limited production run of the open-source Mi.Mu gloves.

"These beautiful gloves help me gesturally interact with my computer," says Heap, explaining how the wearable technology allows her to perform without having to interact with keyboards or control panels.

Pushing buttons and twiddling dials "is not very exciting for me or the audience," she says. "[Now] I can make music on the move, in the flow and more humanly, [and] more naturally engage with my computer software and technology."

Just imagine if the sensitivity was such that by merely walking around a stage, finger-picking or even thrashing, what you could do to a guitar's FX setup - that would be mind-blowing :D

The possibilities are limited only by cash and imagination... and cash....  :P    ::->
