I had my first gig last night! Instead of collecting tips for me, I decided to make it a fundraiser.  We collected $383.25 for the local food bank!   :D

I found changing the velocity in Reason a little fiddly for my taste....but the overall SOUND of the instruments was outstanding!

Copyright infringement?
« on: May 10, 2018, 01:08:51 AM »
Would it be considered copyright infringement to use a saying from a TV show as a song name? Specifically, a saying that was used a lot and kind of a signature of a show?

Nah, my mates band used to do a cover of another Aussie band (Radio Birdman) that included the words "book him Dano, murder one" and used the 50 theme tune as a guitar riff.

Anyone who doesn't like it can eat my shorts.

Shouldn't be, BD, but it's hard to say.  I've seen people claim copyright infringement for a lot of strange things over the years.

I'd go for it anyway...  (-!)

yeah, like Aussie band, Men at Work, infamous tune "Down Under", the flute solo was claimed to be a direct rip off of the kids song "kookaburra sits in the old gum tree".......dear lord, what an utter load of bullcrap, ....but sadly, the courts agreed, .....shame Australia, ....SHAME!!!!

I used to be crazy about that birdmen song, i think the title was "aloha, Steve and Dano", if i recall,....copyright is a very blurry area  indeed

It's almost as tho some really obscure similarity or a sub-concious influence gets held up as plagarism but if your blatant and up front you can get away with it.

You've got all those old songs like rock and roll heaven etc. that reference other songs and lines of lyrics and get away with it fine, but if you accidently stumble upon similar words it's a hanging offense.

If you claim it's an 'omage you probably get away with it.  (-!)

I think the rule of thumb these days is “do you have any money? If so we’ll sue”......

It seems copyright infringement is only acted on if there’s a chance of getting cash out of it....however minor or ridiculous the infringement....
