Rewoking of 2008-KAE challenge-AUTUMN
« on: May 08, 2018, 05:10:18 PM »
I decided to do a makeover on my 2008-KAE challenge song-AUTUMN.

Its still a work in progress, i added a bassline, the original never had bass, i also redid the drums [syncing the midi was difficult as i only had the audio tracks, the original midi track was done with Quartz audiomaster, which is long gone now, sadly], new vocal and added a 3rd verse, new  backing vocs and guitars.

hell, it practically a new song, should have put it in last months challenge LOL.

Good bass track, good all around update to the song.

That should be a challenge sometime - to take an old challenge song and update it to make it even better...

Erm....that WAS a challenge  :o. I think set by Gazebo. I had aspirations of redoing a song which I originally want happy with but didn’t get round to it.

I learned most of what I know about mixing from a bunch of guys who upload stuff on Youtube.  Graham Cochrane of Recording Revolution, Joe Gilder of Home Studio Corner and Jason Moss of Behind the Speakers are the main ones I've watched stuff from.  A lot of their stuff is effectively tasters of paid courses they offer, but the stuff they put out for free is considerable and has really helped me understand the basics of mixing, especially with how to use stuff like EQ and Compression, which can really make a difference to how tracks sound.

I also like Graham at The Recording Revolution, and can recommend the following...

Got to THIS PAGE and watch, in order...

How To Record a Song From Scratch

How To Mix A Song From Scratch

How To Mix And Master A Song In Under An Hour

And then 5 Minutes To A Better Mix 1 & 2

I own all of his stuff, and it is all decent and will point you in the right direction.  ;D  Now, ALL of what I have listed is multi-part FREE courses that will take time to go thru, but I can guarantee that if you do you will have a solid grasp on all things recording & mixing.   ~:)

Produce Like A Pro is another one I can readily recommend, and I own a lot of his also.  Home Recording Made Easy has some good one-offs, and tho I own a few of his courses he tends to ramble on...

And to end this book, The 'Mixing Secrets' Free Multitrack Download Library has 1.2 zillion multi-tracks to grab & practice with At Our Favorite Price Point™ in most every style you can think of, and in most every level of recording quality. I LOVE this site! :P

And this is ALL an IMHO, YMMV, yadayadayada type of post.  (-!)

I Hope This Helps!  8)

Winding back to the start of this thread.......  ;)

I am constantly reworking my past tracks, normally after watching a vid from the guys mentioned above....  ;D

https://www.recordingrevolution.com/blog/
Graham does harp on a bit, but the info is all good! In fact, I'm sure he puts into practice the teachings of those 'The Success System That Never Fails' books, which I discovered in the early 70s..... LOL.
He has recently taken to putting up a full page 'pop up' over his pages, which is extremely annoying and bad practice, but hey, it's his site....  >:(

So, as I read/watch about comb filtering, layered compression, parallel compression, etc, etc, so I go back and try the stuff out on my old tracks.... Almost never fails to improve them.....
