It's been dry mid to i-70s here south of Boston.

Great sleeping weather in the 60s with a nice breeze.

Well, it took 2 days, but I got the power steering fixed, the oil changed, and all the brakes replaced on the van.  Tomorrow it's the brakes on the car.  And then all the plow truck work...  ???

Thanks White sounds good . sorry about being a stick in the mud but mobile use far out plays the PC and catering to it would draw more attention but that's just my opinion .

GC sounds pretty cool on the clean not sure on the dirt side . I do love your talent in all things music :) you would make a most excellent neighbor LMAO  ;D

OK...edited schematic of latest 'final' changes:

10uf bypass capacitor seems to work the best in the 1st preamp stage.  The 0.68uf cap cut too much insofar as lows.  47k R7 resistor reduces negative feedback, keeps things stable & sounds good.  Removal of C10 gave the best tone.  Bypassing R3 & changing R23 to 1.5k worked best to my ears too.

And...changed out the stock PCB that housed the cheap pot & jacks for an Alpha 1M audio pot & 2 ea Switchcraft jacks.  Dependable.

Overall, nice amp.  Most noticeable improvements were Weber speaker, better tubes & more breathable grill cloth.  Then the C1/R21 0.022uf bridging capacitor that bypassed the fixed tone stack.  Really opens up the sound.  R10 bias adjustment helps tube life & sound a bit too.  Everything else was just fluff.  And fun to experiment with.  Tough little amp.

Tone is a very subjective thing.  This amp is a compromise in every way.  It still has a bit to teach me, but I've been able to dial in some interesting tones with different pickups.  Seems to like P90's & singles best.  Then again...so do I.  It has a nice, warm sound & a classic crunch to my ear.  I like it.  The attenuator muffles a bit of the OD tone, but it's still sounds like old school stuff to me.  Darker & more compressed than some.  Works for me.  Warms up nicely with some FX on a track too.  I'll use it on a song sometime soon.  Have to get adjusted to miking amps (SGear vst still sounds good to me 8)).

Soldering...I finally had to get a soldering 'station'.  Got tired of lifting eyelets off boards with standard irons.  Hakko & Weller make great tools.  But, since I don't do this for a living I opted for cheap & easy.  These Guys sell usable, low $$ stations that are variable temp & so far dependable.  One of these & a pantload of Solder-Wick & you're good to go.

You gotta tinker with stuff.  That's what it's all about.  I get something new, first thing I want to do is take it apart.  So I do. ;)

Thanks folks.

Thanks Java.  Nicest sound this has made yet is using a Strat with '54 CS pickups.  All chime & crystal.  Picks up every nuance...and all of the artifacts.  But I care not.  Pretty noises. 8)

@agradeleous

Just so's you know, I add the SC player, too. In case, like me, you can't get SC page to play for you........
For some reason, I can't play tunes from SoundCloud's website, but they work fine with the player embedded in another page...... ::)
I guess that's the opposite problem to yours.......  :P

Sorry for swerving the thread, GC..........  :-[

Like a good record player system, if the music/sounds are good, you soon forget about the artifacts......  8)
