Cool so what's the effect of the Ruby in V3 ?

Just a nice quiet tube.  Allegedly selected because of low noise blah, blah.  Just worked.  More 'articulate', perhaps clearer than others I tried.  To my ear, that means either it is a transparent tube that doesn't color the sound passed to the power section or it is distorting that sound at the appropriate level to make me smile  :D
 Sovtek LPS works too.  Apparently...the AC7 HG is getting hard to find (or out of production).  TAD 7025S is supposed to be the same tube as is Genelec std 12AX7.  All re-branded Sino-Shuguang factory products.  Only 3 or 4 companies left in the world that even make vacuum tubes.  NOS have been on the shelf & well picked over for a while now.  New prod is somewhat hit & miss AFAIK.  Doug's Tubes & Antique Electronics are two good sources for info & selection (fair $$$, testing & returns if bad).

     Remember...I just use generally what I have in the spares box.  $32 usd is too much for a HG+.  If you are shopping, I would seriously sending Doug, of Doug's Tubes an e-mail asking what he would recommend.  Good guy who knows his business.

Doug is out of stock on them . I questioning another supplier on there's as it's listed Ruby 12AX7AC7 no HG+ plus but down the discription it mentions HG+ so ... confusion lol

I also sent Doug an email .

 I've bought matched quads of 6l6 & el34 , use them as a pair and have spares. Nesstone is cheaper than matched pair compared to some sellers.   https://nesstone.com/product/russian-el84-power-vacuum-tube/ They carry a few preamp tubes too , more than they used to have.

I'm a poorboy been buying JJ's from Tube Depot https://tubedepot.com/t/tubes/preamp-tubes?utf8=%E2%9C%93&per_page=

Got a quad of Nesstone's cheapest 6v6's too they work. The voltages are what I look at  :P

Okay ... lets do this one more time ... take 43 http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1277143

Lets review...the AC5 is a HG+(V1) and the AC7 is a HG (high grade:  selected for low noise/micro-phonics)V3.  Lots of places to snag tubes at various price points.  I like Ruby because they test the crap out of their tubes and the price is right (comparatively).  TAD & Genelex, Groove Tubes & a host of others do the same thing.  Each guitar/amp setup is different as is each players ear.  Do not consider my current tube set as gospel.  Just works for me for now.

I suggested Doug because he has the experience to offer up sound recommendations.  He has fair prices (tested) and stellar service & reputation , but you might find better deals on his suggestions elsewhere.  Rabbit hole time.  Or just play them Bug labeled tubes til they melt. :-*    I really hate spending $$$ unnecessarily so I tend to seek out the best perceived value in this stuff.  Not the cheapest necessarily.

K last question did you have do the test options ? Doug has The EL84's but they have 3 levels of break up that's new to me .
Early = soft distortion
Middle = meduim  distortion
Late = Hard distotion

I'll get them matched what did you do for the preamp tubes ?

I've never matched preamp tubes.  Heard some folks that think the PI tube should be matched...but I don't believe my ear would discern any difference.  JMO...

Cool deal, AG. 8)  New glass will make a difference.  I like the combo.  I've had zero fails on Ruby tubes & find them priced right & perform great.  Same for the Sovtek's (also $$$ right).  I'll be interested in hearing your take on the Bug w/ these installed.
