Wasn't meant to be a hint but if your friend had tickets to a show somewhere near his place, anď if I'm in the neighborhood anyway at a coincidentally opportune time....😉

New Gear Day - Vox Valvetronix VT20X
« on: January 03, 2016, 06:30:05 PM »
I was very happy that one of my Christmas gifts was a Vox Valvetronix VT20X amplifier.

I had been struggling with recording since moving house a few months ago.  I couldn't seem to get any amp sims to give me the sounds I was hoping for, and my 40 watt Peavey amp was just too loud.

I had been using a little Blackstar Fly 3 for practice, which is really brilliant for a small battery powered unit,  but I wanted something that had a bit more "weight" that was good at bedroom type volumes and would be good for recording.

The VTX range is a new model range and I had seen some very good reviews.  It is a modelling amp with a valve first stage (though quite how much that adds is difficult to say), but it models several amps and has some built in effects.  So far it sounds great with all of my guitars, and I will be posting some new music soon hopefully.

In the meantime, link below to a review  if you are interested in the features:

Good stuff, Gaz.

Back in the day (oh my, almost ten years ago!), I had Wox AD50VT, which, I believe, is based on same kind of idea. Very good amp, it was.

Tres' cool, Gaz 8) 8) 8).
They're great little amps. I've been using vox amps since before I had hair
and I really like them. All valve or amp modeling, IMO they always sound good.
The AC30 on my PodFarm 2 is my go to recording amp 80% of the time.

Nice Xmas gift, Gaz.  VT20X sounds like a nice combo.  Versatile.  My only Vox dsp amp experience is with an older VT20+ (close to the new ones).  Vox packed a lot of features into the box.  One definitely does not want to toss the manual before reading up on it.  Nice amp & FX choices as well as a ton of presets & flexibility/versatility.  8" speaker sounds ok...wish it was a 12".

The 20+ units had some issues with the headphone out jack breaking (cheap & internal connectors snapped) which caused the main spkr to cut out.  Early ones had some hum issues too.  Hope that these are worked out.  Still a solid practice/recording amp.  Congrats!
