Great job to Smurf! It was fun doing this again after so long.

My votes are in!

I would have no issue with it.

Here's mine. A bit different than my usual acoustic songs.

I'm going to post it.  Does anyone have the login information for the ODC Soundcloud page? I realize it doesn't exactly meet the requirements but it's all in fun right? Oh, and check out that grunge at the end of the song!!  :D

Key of C is not my key for singing, but in the spirit of being honest, I had just had a Coke when I read the requirements, so I went with it. So, the vocals are pretty bad. I recorded and rerecorded the vocals maybe 15 times over three days and then just gave up.  :(

Down at the County Line
Everybody’s dancing, everybody’s singing
Everyone is having a real good time
We’re gonna have a party tonight
Down at the the County Line

Chorus:
A little bit of Coke
A little bit of Rum
Some tequila to loosen you lips just some
We’re all having a good time
Down at the County Line

So sing a little ditty and hug a little filly
Having some fun down in the Texas sun
We’re gonna have a party tonight
Down at the County Line

Chorus:
A little bit of Coke
A little bit of Rum
Some tequila to loosen you lips just some
We’re all having a good time
Down at the County Line

Dancing and singing, everybody’s thinking
Maybe I’ll even get lucky tonight
We’re gonna have a party tonight
Down at the County Line

Chorus:
A little bit of Coke
A little bit of Rum
Some tequila to loosen you lips just some
We’re all having a good time
Down at the County Line

I wrote and recorded a song for this but I'm not sure it really fits the bill for the topic. I wrote it so that the drink plays a prominent role, but it's not exactly the topic. The key kills my voice, so the vocals are horrible. Otherwise it's pretty good.

Cow's milk I assume, key of C? Or mucus, key of C.

Folk / Re: New Irish song for St. Pat's Day!

Thanks everyone! If anyone else has additional comments, let me know.

As of right now, I think I am going to keep the older 33RPM vinyl feel for the first part, but cut out the talking. Doing a dichotomy of old and new was the original concept, and I think I want to stick with that. The vocals need better mixing and I may rerecord them as well.

I'm going to go ahead and post this, but realize that it needs some work.  I am going to make some fairly big changes to it.  For one, my family says the Irish accent thing has to go!

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / Re: Feb/Mar 2019 Light and Dark

Hmm, okay, that's fairly specific. I don't think mine will work. I'll look into other options then. I might be able to complete something if I can find the time. Work is really rocking right now.

Is the concept here specifically light and dark, or simply a dichotomy? Can it be happy/sad, old/young, or other types of contrasts? I've got an Irish song I happen to be working on that features old and new. Just wondering if that could fit in? I'm okay either way.

Rock / Re: New original: I Can Only Dream About Her
« on: February 27, 2019, 09:32:58 PM »
Thanks guys!  Not sure if it would fit into this months theme, unfortunately.  But, I am working on something that might fit.

I updated the song posted above to make it a little better.  I rerecorded the vocals, brought the bass and drums out a bit, and added some backing guitar.  Take a listen if you get the chance and let me know your thoughts.

This is a song that I collaborated with a lady from Ireland. She sent me a poem and asked me to make a song out of it. I was able to use most of her versus but added some of my own and also the chorus is mine and the melody.  Anyway, let me know your thoughts and recommendations.

Challenges / Re: Dec/Jan 2018/19 Challenge
« on: December 13, 2018, 07:17:10 PM »
So here is my idea.  I was reading a Stephen King book and it contained the line "When it comes to our past, we're all just writing fiction."  That really struck me as an interesting phrase.  I've been working on how to make that a song but I've ended up with a huge variety of ideas.  It could be about the 'Good old days' that aren't really that good.  Love lost that maybe wasn't a great relationship to begin with.  Abuse that we rationalize as not being that bad.  That horrible experience that probably wasn't as bad as we thought it was.  Etc, etc....

So lets work together.

What if several of us write our own verse about how we view something in our past that probably wasn't how we remember it.  Once we have the verses, we can put together a chorus that kind of ties it all together.  Ideally, we would each sing our verse individually and the chorus together.  I'm thinking of a music version of telling lies at the bar.

Thoughts? Interest?

I haven't thought about putting this into a song format, but instead kind of wrote a poem, which COULD be re-imagined as a song.

We’re all Writing Fiction
There once was a time, when my mind was my own
A time before marriage, children, and a home
There once was a time, when I thought for myself
A time long before, I was covered with debt
A time when I could live, without any restrictions
But when it comes to our past, we’re all writing fiction

Nobody remembers, the bustle of school
Nobody thinks of the time we were fools
Nobody thinks of that long-broken heart
When the love of our life, tore it apart
Or that stab in the back, by your supposed best friend
When dreaming of the past, perhaps think again

It was never as rosy, as you perhaps might think
So, sit back my friend and enjoy your warm drink
Be warm and cozy, with dreams of the past
Just remember, my friend, that those memories don’t last
Be boisterous and sing your song with passion
But when it comes to our past, we’re all writing fiction

Now as night comes, and you snuggle in bed
Your kids are asleep and your debts in the red
Ponder what you have, and what’s coming ahead
Think on the things you should or shouldn’t have said
Your life is so hard, we know that is so
But the life you have now, is reaped from what you sow

There really are no “good old days”
Accept what’s lived now as your new “old” ways
Live life to the fullest, each day a new gift
Hold your spouse close and give them a kiss
When it comes to the now, don’t lose focus and reason
But when it comes to the past, we’re all writing fiction
