Battle of the Bands / BOTB 2019 - The Draw!!!
« on: June 22, 2019, 12:11:02 AM »
So here we are...late as usual :P

This year's draw was made from "The Hat"....well actually it was A hat....not THE Hat....

Here's the video to prove there were no bribes or coercion from @papaG :P

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / MARCH ODC - Light and Dark - Results
« on: March 27, 2019, 10:17:24 PM »
Good evening people!

We had 8 votes this month, and only two points separated 1st from 3rd....it was THAT close folks....

Here are the results:

In third place comes the magnificent RedJoker and his band of other jokers....

Sliding into second is PapaG and the GBois......

And your winner, by the narrowest of margins is Gazebo, backed by his pals Greenhouse, Shed and Lean-To!!!

Big round of applause for our contestants and an extra clap or two for our winner, Gazebo!!

Over to you Gazmeister!!

Rock / It's Been A Long Time....
« on: March 23, 2019, 02:51:49 AM »
Here's a little ditty by a little known band from the 70s called Led Zeppelin..... ;D
Frankly, as far as I'm concerned you can keep "Stairway to Heaven"...THIS is the monster track on Led Zep IV  ~:)
When I first got this album in the late eighties, I basically bought it for Stairway because I had heard that track and thought it was cool and just happened to have the "Easy chord" version in a guitar songbook I owned....
So I throw the tape in my walkman (yes I did say tape and walkman :P ), start listening....
Yeah...Black Dog...very cool....yup.......next...WAIT! WHAT THE Fandango WAS THAT? (Rewind) :P

Not that I'm a huge Zep fan...Robert Plant's voice kinda annoys me actually lol
But that track made the hair on the back of my neck stand up  ;D

Anyway, this should appeal to @Smurf and maybe @Joom  at least.... even if everyone else hates it :P

So..... Wildkat and Hagstrom Swede for guitars.... Behringer C-1 mic on vox, and all the other suspects as per usual....

As usual, for us normal people and the Sexi Fingered, MP3 attached below....

For the modern folks, here's the fancy button....

Alrighty then boys and girls....

It's that time of the month when you get to exercise your democratic right to vote for PapaG.... I mean your favourite song of the ODC  ;D

(He paid me to say that you know....not much, but he did :P )

So here is your "premise":

"Vernal Equinox - One day of the year when the hours of day and night are equal.

This challenge is to write and record a new song that captures the essence of day/night, light/dark, yin/yang. Your song should consist of equal parts of light and dark, lyrically,  musically.
Can be any style, any genre, collabs, instrumentals. Must be at least 3:23 In length. "

Midway through PG had a brain fart wave and threw it open to collabs/helping folks/ getting more than one song in.....
Therefore you will be voting for your favourite song that meets the criteria, entrants MUST vote but they don't need to place themselves last..... guess it makes sense in Saskatchewan or something....  ;D

So for your listening pleasure, here are this month's attention seekers  entrants......

Voting will close on Tuesday 26th March 2019, with results to follow on Wednesday the 27th....

Good luck and happy listening!

Guitars / NGD: Someone broke their neck....
« on: February 26, 2019, 12:27:45 AM »
 ;D ;D ;D

You may have heard this one already....but.....here's the official post :P

A few weeks back I was ogling guitars on Kijiji and I came across this little beauty, or so I thought....
Pictures on the iphone being rather small I didn't catch on right away why this Hagstrom Swede ( an $800 or $900 guitar) was on sale for $125....
Being the cheapskate that I am I had to investigate....

So....the neck is broken....snapped just before the nut.....hence the price tag  ::)
But it's a beautiful looking guitar....hmmmm....what to do....what to do....

Well.....I think.... I could try to fix it.....worst case scenario I'll need a new neck....so I ask the gentleman to send me some pics that actually show the break - this is what he sends below...

Guitars / NGD - Couple of Things (Overdue)
« on: February 23, 2019, 12:15:53 AM »

If you read the TYMD post first then you already know about the Behringer C1 Condenser Mic.....
If you read this post first then....I got a Behringer C1 Condenser :P :P

Interesting item.... definitely in the "ant's fart at thirty paces" category...but I guess that's what noise gates are for lol

Definitely not for recording around a noisy house :P :P
Having said that, I do like the sound I get...seems clearer to me, AND it's making me stand up to sing which as you all know is much better for the breathing, range etc...I'm just so darned lazy.... it was much easier to just sit with the dynamic in my hand lol

That aside....my other overdue post is that I finally got my Casino!!
:D :D

Been after one for years, but the retail price is way too high for a new one $800 Canadian (plus taxes) or so ... can't justify it....
And you NEVER see them for sale 2nd hand around here.... until last December that is :P
Something made me go on Kijiji one night...hadn't looked on there for about a year and guess what?
Somebody had just listed 20 mins before a Cherry Red Casino complete with Hard Case for $400!!!

Now that is a HELL of a deal....how could I say no??
So I go have a look...and it is mint....very well cared for...not a nick or a blemish or even a fingerprint on it lol
And it plays like a dream...you know me, I love my Epi's :D
(And I've always wanted a hardshell case - weird I know, but there you go :P )

Needless to say...it came home....
Funnily enough, I've seen two or three Casino's on sale since then for $150 or $200 more.... just as in comedy or music...timing is everything I guess lol

This thing is sooooo light compared to semi or solid bodies lol
It's a bit weird at first, and it's loud when not plugged in...but you get used to it in a hurry :D
Soundbite to follow shortly....

Rock / I bought a broken guitar...better Tie Your Mother Down....
« on: February 22, 2019, 11:41:54 PM »
 ;D ;D

Yes boys and girls... I bought a new (Old) guitar :D

So just for the hell of it here's a little demo of two items which should show up in a new gear day post sometime soon :P

First up is the Behringer C1 condenser mic  8)
Had the bloody thing since October...first time I used it in a song...I did try it out just for fun but never actually recorded a toon with it...till now :D

Second is my infamous(at least around my house) broken guitar lol
It's a Hagstrom Swede....more about it in an upcoming NGD post soon.... :D

Everything else is the usual suspects ;)

This should have been done on a single coil...I find the 'buckers a bit too "thick" for authenticity...but I really wanted to record the Swede :D

PS Watch out for a VERY sketchy guitar solo :P :P

Challenges / The best of 2018....kinda..... ODC winners!!
« on: December 16, 2018, 04:55:06 AM »
Since our next challenge will end in 2019, this is a good time to take a look back at our members work from 2018  8)

Here are the winners of this year's ODC's....

Some real good listening here, give it a whirl...you won't be disappointed!

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / November 2018 results!
« on: December 09, 2018, 06:43:36 PM »
Ok so it’s a day late and a dollar short lol

Oh well, what are you going to do?
Real life takes precedence.....

Nevertheless, we have a winner by the slimmest of slim margins....
Thanks to a last minute member vote the tie was broken....

So in reverse order:

Sliding in at third was Cottonwood!

In a single point deficit second place was Gazebo!!

And if you can keep up with the maths, that leaves our winner this month for a second consecutive time:

Well done!!

Great songs all round!

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / Voting Thread - November 2018 - No More War
« on: December 03, 2018, 02:27:16 AM »
Hello boys and girls!

Once more it's time to exercise your voting privileges and decide a winner for our November ODC :D

This month's theme was set by the inimitable Way2lon, winner of the October Tunefest....

He said, and I quote:

"It's 100 years since the end of the first world war.
In Britain we have a ceremony all over the country on the 11th of Nov at 11am where we have a silence for 2 mins to remember the dead and those who fought in that war and all other wars since. The 1st world war was supposed to be 'The War To End Wars' but it didn't so this month I'd suggest a song or tune to show your feelings about war.
So long as it's obvious to listeners what you are trying to say is all the rule there is."

So therefore listen to the following entries and make your decision according to your taste or conscience (whichever shouts louder)  ;D

Voting shall commence right now.....

PM me here or fire an email to neilmac2006 at gmail dot com  ;D

Voting shall be open till midnight 7th December 2018, results on 8th December 2018
Good luck chaps!

Country / Kathy? Nah...I'm not Kathy....
« on: October 06, 2018, 11:56:44 PM »
Yeah I know...more country :P

I've always loved this song...it was on heavy rotation on CMT when I first set foot in Winnipeg :)

Some of you older north americans probably had one of these :P
....or maybe just a junkpile piece of Chevelle ;)

So here's my version.....enjoy!

Blue Bastard, F310 acoustic and all other usual bits and pieces :)

MP3 below if you're that way inclined or the TTM upload thing here :

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / October 2018 ODC - Hallo Halloween
« on: October 01, 2018, 12:34:04 AM »
Since G-Boi chickened out of a formal vote......it falls to me to put the next Challenge in motion....

I guess I out-county'd the King Of Country....now that's scary....
(either that or he just felt sorry for me)
(OR he was just too darned lazy to type up the challenge)

Speaking of scary....it's October once again :)

I think it's been a while since we had a scary challenge, hasn't it?
(It's been at least a year)
(Not counting any time I do Country)

Sooooo....write a scary or horror themed  tune...instrumental or song....suitable for a Halloween Theme.....easy huh?
No...using a picture of Gboy in a speedo for the cover does not count as making a scary song...

It can be comic or serious, loud or quiet, good or Country bad....

Whatever you want, as long as it fits the Halloween theme :)

Extra accordions wins bonus points. **

Upload your entries to the S/C account by close of day 26th October 2018....

Good luck boys and girls!

** Bonus points can be redeemed for Saskatchewan Air Miles at a rate of 1 point = 1/50,000th of an air mile. Only valid for travel within Saskatchewan. Must be over the age of 105 and obtain both grandparent's written permission to participate.

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / September 2018 ODC - Burt Is The Word
« on: September 07, 2018, 01:22:44 AM »
 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Get your moustaches and toupees on ladies and gents!

In light of my total lack of imagination, this month's ODC is inspired by the passing of
Mr Burt Reynolds earlier today.....

No no no no.....despite the hat that isn't a young PapaG.....yes I know he's sitting in a 70s Trans Am....but it's still not Gboy....

Moving swiftly along.....

Your challenge this month is to write and record a brand new song inspired by or suitable for inclusion on the soundtrack of one of his movies......

This should give you plenty of scope ;)
Smokey and the Bandit...Deliverance....Boogie Nights....geez, there's three obvious musical styles right there :P

Additional points if you manage to include a Duellin' Banjos reference....
PS points count for nothing in this competition :P

Ags, that's the only Deliverance reference I'll allow...behave yourself!!!
I know you're just dying to say something.... :P

Write and record your new song and upload it to the TTM Sound Cloud account by close of day 27th September 2018, hopefully we can get the voting done by the end of September and get back on track a bit :)

Gentlemen, start your engines.....

keep your foot hard on that peddle,
son never mind 'em brakes,
let it all hang out,
we got a run to make ;)

Country / (Shake It For Me) Country G
« on: August 16, 2018, 01:40:59 AM »
That title should read Country Girl

 :P :P

Anyways...... ::)

Always liked this song.....

The usual suspects....plus some keys courtesy of the Casio CTK-3000 :)
I don't often break out the keyboard but every now and again it's necessary lol

The banjo is not me.... :P

If your device won't play the in post player, there's an mp3 attached...
