Grew up with the Monkees on tv every morning during the summer holidays when I was a kid in Scotland.....

I think it's cute
When you salute
It seems to suit
Your attribute
I know that others
Might dispute
But they know
I don't give a hoot
Cause all in all
It's kinda cute

I'm sure he could, Ag, but it won't take long once I can get to it.  Just figured I'd get all the paid for website work I'm behind on done first.  4 business website updates to do, one new one to build, and set up a new student computer lab at a school...

February 18, 2019, 03:24:48 PM
Maybe Lurk can help out ? Just an idea I know TTM is your baby but nothing wrong with asking for help once in a while . 😁

February 17, 2019, 06:47:20 PM
Aw, crap.  You mentioned "business" and it reminded me I have to let a few know I should be able to do some work this week.  Don't know if I'm ever going to get a chance to rebuild the TTM main site...  :(

February 17, 2019, 05:39:18 PM
Enjoy  ;D Looks like you did the business with the archive too  8)

February 17, 2019, 04:30:06 PM
Thanks, Neil.  Got almost 3 hours sleep this morning, had a piece of toast, and after almost 2 weeks with no coffee I'm having a cup now...  ;D

Good to see you’re back on your feet....kinda  ;D

Challenges / The best of 2018....kinda..... ODC winners!!
« on: December 16, 2018, 04:55:06 AM »
Since our next challenge will end in 2019, this is a good time to take a look back at our members work from 2018  8)

Here are the winners of this year's ODC's....

Some real good listening here, give it a whirl...you won't be disappointed!

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / November 2018 results!
« on: December 09, 2018, 06:43:36 PM »
Ok so it’s a day late and a dollar short lol

Oh well, what are you going to do?
Real life takes precedence.....

Nevertheless, we have a winner by the slimmest of slim margins....
Thanks to a last minute member vote the tie was broken....

So in reverse order:

Sliding in at third was Cottonwood!

In a single point deficit second place was Gazebo!!

And if you can keep up with the maths, that leaves our winner this month for a second consecutive time:

Well done!!

Great songs all round!

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / Voting Thread - November 2018 - No More War
« on: December 03, 2018, 02:27:16 AM »
Hello boys and girls!

Once more it's time to exercise your voting privileges and decide a winner for our November ODC :D

This month's theme was set by the inimitable Way2lon, winner of the October Tunefest....

He said, and I quote:

"It's 100 years since the end of the first world war.
In Britain we have a ceremony all over the country on the 11th of Nov at 11am where we have a silence for 2 mins to remember the dead and those who fought in that war and all other wars since. The 1st world war was supposed to be 'The War To End Wars' but it didn't so this month I'd suggest a song or tune to show your feelings about war.
So long as it's obvious to listeners what you are trying to say is all the rule there is."

So therefore listen to the following entries and make your decision according to your taste or conscience (whichever shouts louder)  ;D

Voting shall commence right now.....

PM me here or fire an email to neilmac2006 at gmail dot com  ;D

Voting shall be open till midnight 7th December 2018, results on 8th December 2018
Good luck chaps!

Country / Kathy? Nah...I'm not Kathy....
« on: October 06, 2018, 11:56:44 PM »
Yeah I know...more country :P

I've always loved this song...it was on heavy rotation on CMT when I first set foot in Winnipeg :)

Some of you older north americans probably had one of these :P
....or maybe just a junkpile piece of Chevelle ;)

So here's my version.....enjoy!

Blue Bastard, F310 acoustic and all other usual bits and pieces :)

MP3 below if you're that way inclined or the TTM upload thing here :

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / October 2018 ODC - Hallo Halloween
« on: October 01, 2018, 12:34:04 AM »
Since G-Boi chickened out of a formal vote......it falls to me to put the next Challenge in motion....

I guess I out-county'd the King Of Country....now that's scary....
(either that or he just felt sorry for me)
(OR he was just too darned lazy to type up the challenge)

Speaking of scary....it's October once again :)

I think it's been a while since we had a scary challenge, hasn't it?
(It's been at least a year)
(Not counting any time I do Country)

Sooooo....write a scary or horror themed  tune...instrumental or song....suitable for a Halloween Theme.....easy huh?
No...using a picture of Gboy in a speedo for the cover does not count as making a scary song...

It can be comic or serious, loud or quiet, good or Country bad....

Whatever you want, as long as it fits the Halloween theme :)

Extra accordions wins bonus points. **

Upload your entries to the S/C account by close of day 26th October 2018....

Good luck boys and girls!

** Bonus points can be redeemed for Saskatchewan Air Miles at a rate of 1 point = 1/50,000th of an air mile. Only valid for travel within Saskatchewan. Must be over the age of 105 and obtain both grandparent's written permission to participate.

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / September 2018 ODC - Burt Is The Word
« on: September 07, 2018, 01:22:44 AM »
 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Get your moustaches and toupees on ladies and gents!

In light of my total lack of imagination, this month's ODC is inspired by the passing of
Mr Burt Reynolds earlier today.....

No no no no.....despite the hat that isn't a young PapaG.....yes I know he's sitting in a 70s Trans Am....but it's still not Gboy....

Moving swiftly along.....

Your challenge this month is to write and record a brand new song inspired by or suitable for inclusion on the soundtrack of one of his movies......

This should give you plenty of scope ;)
Smokey and the Bandit...Deliverance....Boogie Nights....geez, there's three obvious musical styles right there :P

Additional points if you manage to include a Duellin' Banjos reference....
PS points count for nothing in this competition :P

Ags, that's the only Deliverance reference I'll allow...behave yourself!!!
I know you're just dying to say something.... :P

Write and record your new song and upload it to the TTM Sound Cloud account by close of day 27th September 2018, hopefully we can get the voting done by the end of September and get back on track a bit :)

Gentlemen, start your engines.....

keep your foot hard on that peddle,
son never mind 'em brakes,
let it all hang out,
we got a run to make ;)

Country / (Shake It For Me) Country G
« on: August 16, 2018, 01:40:59 AM »
That title should read Country Girl

 :P :P

Anyways...... ::)

Always liked this song.....

The usual suspects....plus some keys courtesy of the Casio CTK-3000 :)
I don't often break out the keyboard but every now and again it's necessary lol

The banjo is not me.... :P

If your device won't play the in post player, there's an mp3 attached...

Right, you 'orrible lot  :P

Since we're already creeping up on the fourth of July already, AND we have a BOTB going on, AND it's summer, AND people are up to their ears in real life..... it's time for a nice quick and easy ODC  ;D

Of course it's soooooo easy AND obvious.....

Summer..... how about you write us a nice upbeat summery song?

Think Bon Jovi's "99 in the shade"....think anything Beach Boys..... think Zac Brown "Toes In The Sand"......think about something you'd blast on the beach....some kind of beachy, party, summery song  ;D

Gotta be light and bopping...... no serious stuff....got to be FUN!!!

Bonus turnips for mentioning beer!!

Any style (even country :P ), any length, any method (loops, samples, John Deere parts, power tools....)....instrumentals welcome.... in fact nothing says beach party more than something you'd hear in an Ibiza nightclub....

Must be new track starting ......NOW......and must be posted to the SC account by 11.59PM 27th July 2018.

If you don't get one in...you will automatically be volunteered for tallyman duty......voting should commence July 28th and close July 31st if we can.....

Let's go!!!!

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / June 2018 ODC Results!!!!!
« on: July 03, 2018, 11:41:15 PM »
Evening folks  8)

The votes have been cast and the results tabulated.

The people have made their choices known.

So on to the results....

In reverse order.....we have a tie for second place.... Rk and Red Joker!!!!

Which leaves me as this month's winner.....  ::)

I'm really not sure about you lot...honestly.... I thought the other two were miles ahead.... much more inventive and interesting....

Then again...Justin Beiber and One Direction have sold a hell of a lot of records...so there's no accounting for taste lol

Anyway...you voted the way you did, so I guess it's true (even after several recounts to make sure)....

Yay me!! lol

Nice easy one for this month....promise  ;D

Rock / Down The Highway? Let It Roll, then....
« on: July 03, 2018, 02:45:06 AM »
Hello boys and girls  ;D

Doing this one is almost like messing with the Star Spangled Banner, at least to Canadians :P
Luckily, I'm not one of them :P so I did it anyway......

It's a good old fashioned rocker from the 70's when men wore heels and big hairy jackets and beards were Beards with a capital B.......

This one was recorded using ONLY the Blue Bastard, including the solo....  :o
The action that high up the neck is REALLY high...better do something about that sometime....

All other usual suspects were present and correct :)
MP3 version attached below for those of that persuasion....

Enjoy some BTO people...... lava lamps and bright green shag pile carpet not included  ;D

Since no one else has bitten the bullet, in the interest of moving on I'll get the voting going :D

The Challenge was thus:

"Write a new song about a (somewhat) devastating personal catastrophe and how you overcame it. Put a positive spin on it, the silver lining. If your life has been uneventful in that way, I guess you'll have to write a fictional piece.

Also, your song must include two key changes. These changes must be 3 semitones each and cannot revert to the original key. Example, if the songs starts in the key of G, your next change would be Bb and then C#. Minimum limit for each key change will be 16 measures. No time limit on the song and loops, samples, collabs, instrumentals are not restricted. "

So....since I'm an entrant I do have to vote myself last anyway.....and I've listened and made my choice already....

Here are the entrants for cutting and pasting:

Red Joker - Weekend Racer
Rk - This Is A Test
Neilmac - Rise Above It

And for your listening pleasure, the playlist:

Votes in order of preference, 1-3, to my PM or email at neilmac2006 at gmail dot com.....

Closing Date will be 7am Central Time Tuesday July 3rd 2018.....

Get to it!

Country / This Town Is Ours (And no it's not called Raddisson :P )
« on: June 23, 2018, 02:39:53 AM »
Couldn't quite decide if this qualified as Country (with a capital 'C') or not......
Mainly since everything turns to Rock once I get my hands on it lol :P

But I think it should be country (with a small 'c') enough that I'll get away with it lol
Unless @papaG shows up..in which case I won't get away with ANYTHING :P

Nevertheless....this is a cover of a Charles Esten song....
If you don't know who that is, google him lol
He just spent a year or so releasing a single every friday - he called it Every Single Friday....what a genius :D
All self penned songs and pretty good ones too :)
I might do a few more of his as time allows :)

(Or not :P )

Rock / Old ODC Redo - Born This Way
« on: June 23, 2018, 02:26:23 AM »
Quite a while back we had an ODC in which we had to do a cover in a different style (or something to that effect) :P

I chose "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga - and it was awful lmfao

However, now I've learned some stuff and have some different equipment etc I figured I'd give it another go just for kicks....

So technically this is a cover of a cover I did :P :P:

If you're the masochistic type PM me and I'll send you the original ODC entry for A/B comparison :P :P

Anyway... don't laugh TOO hard ;)

Battle of the Bands / BOTB 2018 - Bands and Details
« on: June 06, 2018, 01:57:00 AM »
As promised, late I know, the draw has been made!

No doubt you’re all itching to know who your band mates will be.....

But first, a little housekeeping.....

It was decided to go with four bands of three members each......
This way, if there are any latecomers they can be inserted into the bands in numerical order....firstly though, if there is a dropout any late volunteers will automatically take over the missing member’s spot. If there are no back outs, the next volunteer will join Band 1, second volunteer will join Band 2 and so on......got that? Good.

Anyone else who missed the original post.....now is your chance to sign up!
Don’t be shy....everyone is welcome!!

The bands were drawn blindly from a plant pot by my lovely assistant, She Who Must Be Obeyed ( ‘er indoors for short ).

Here are the bands:

Band 1:   @RedJoker - @Joom  - @neilmac

Band 2:   @way2lon  - @Cottonwood  - @Smurf

Band 3:   @whitestrat73  - @papaG  - @onetrack

Band 4:   @Dino - @rkennett  - @BoneDigger

The challenge is to write and record a brand new song, to the best of your ability, and post it to the BOTB SoundCloud account (login details when I remember what they are from last year  :P ) before midnight on the 31st July 2018.

We had two theme suggestions, so you are free to choose from either ( or both if you’re feeling ambitious   :P ).

The themes were “Lost Forever” and “Anger Management”.......

Any style, any length, any method is completely acceptable

Practice is encouraged but not mandatory - unless you were drawn in the same band as PG, in which case different rules apply....  :P

Have at ‘er boys and girls!
