I found changing the velocity in Reason a little fiddly for my taste....but the overall SOUND of the instruments was outstanding!

October 28, 2018, 03:43:09 PM
Hey agr, I tried out the full version of Reason last year, but I like more control over the patterns. For my workflow I like Groove Monkee & Odd Grooves to lay down a root feel, then I go back in 90% of the time & tweak....add a ghost snare hit here, a cymbal there, etc. I found changing the velocit

And Mr. Smurf  I’m sure you would dig the drum programs .  :D

I tried cake but didn’t like the work flow . I really did like Reaper but wanted the keyboard option to fit my needs so Reason became it .
Yes it costs after which it’s 125. For upgrades but Reason is stepping up and constantly getting better and now with VST support it’s a real power house

Cakewalk is one outstanding DAW, and with it being At Our Favorite Price Point it IS a no brainer.....I just never "warmed up" to it even after using it for almost a year, both X3 and Platinum....

What I meant by not giving crap was just the reading of posts me repeating why I can’t enter this or that challenge not that didn’t care about me personally but I thank you for guns and beer , there was beer right ?

I just wanted to re-share a song I wrote when a friend of mine was recently deployed to Kuwait. Verse 2 is my veterinarian and verse 3 is for another veteran friend that does a lot to help prevent veteran suicides.

It may not be a fantastic song but it means a lot to me and my friends.

Collaborations / Re: Calling All Guitarists
« on: October 30, 2018, 12:17:12 PM »
I won't commit to doing anything real with this but I'm always looking for a fun backing track to work on improvising.  Listening at my desk, I can hear some fun guitar licks in my head to go with this.  Now, can I play them is different question....

Thanks for sharing!

Been traveling for work so nothing from me either. :(

General Discussion / Re: I have you all to thank for my first real gig!!
« on: October 06, 2018, 06:11:27 PM »
Thanks everyone!

Slight change of plans. Since I wasn't going to be paid much, I decided to change this from a regular gig to a fundraiser for the local food bank.  The venue owner agreed to support this in their advertising and I can be much more comfortable asking for donations, rather than tips. Plus, more folks are likely to come to a fundraiser that has music than just my performance. I think it will be a win-win-win!

General Discussion / I have you all to thank for my first real gig!!
« on: October 03, 2018, 05:26:43 PM »
I was called yesterday by the owner of the local restaurant / bar / music hall where I play the open mics and open jams.  She books live music every week and offered me a spot next month.  I considered not accepting because I don't know a huge number of covers and don't really want to be a live jukebox in the corner.  However, she told me she specifically wanted me to play my originals and provide background on how I came up with them.  Apparently, that is her favorite part of open mic night!

The thing is, most of those songs started as ODC challenges here.

So allow me to buy you all a virtual beer and brat as a way to say thank you for getting me my first gig.  :D

General Discussion / Working in 'Waves'
« on: October 01, 2018, 12:50:09 PM »
Do you folks ever work in 'waves?'  I haven't entered the ODC in a few months because I've been working on new guitar techniques, reworking old songs, and improving my performing skills.  Since music isn't my livelihood, I can just flow with the currents and drift in different directions.  I'm always moving forward and getting better, it's just more of a meandering stroll and a straight, purposeful walk.  :)

What about you?

Hmmm... I might have an idea or two to try with this one!  We'll see how they work out.

Guitars / Re: Last one for a while !

Pretty but the proof will be in the sound.  In your capable hands, I'm sure it just sings!!   :o

Completed Original Songs / Re: Puddle Pirate
« on: August 31, 2018, 06:27:22 PM »
By the way, if my vocals seem hesitant, it's because they are. I wasn't really paying attention to my singing but was watching my DAW (Reaper).  It's been crashing a lot lately to the point that the previous four attempts crashed before I even got to the end of the song.

I think I found some driver issues that I (hope) have now been corrected.  Otherwise, that is REALLY annoying.

Completed Original Songs / Puddle Pirate
« on: August 31, 2018, 05:40:14 PM »
Just a goofy song about a little girl that would rather be a pirate.  It was inspired by a little old sail boat at a local reservoir that someone called the "Puddle Pirate".

I'm only half done with last month's challenge!   :o

Battle of the Bands / Re: BOTB 2018 - Bands and Details
« on: August 17, 2018, 11:23:50 AM »
Is there any news about Band 1 and Band 3

Are you two struggling?   Seeing as 2 & 4 are complete, can we offer any assistance for any parts (silent band members of course) :) :)

I, for one, have been AWOL but I'm hoping to hop back in again.  Life and work, you know.....
