At this point, I definitely have much more than was lost....or could have been lost....so have to look on the bright side

My wife is out of town and when I was talking with her on the phone last night, we started discussing a few of the projects we have going on around the house. She told me to be sure to spend some time on this month's challenge song, too.  Ha!

 (-!)

It just wasn't in the cards for the Rs.
 :)

And we'd have gotten away with it if it weren't for these meddling kids!!!

Just too bad there has to be winners and losers in contests and challenges.  (-!)

Luckily, the prize money is the same, either way.  ;)

I'd hate to see you go, way2lon. I have to admit, I've not followed the rules on a few challenges and just did what I wanted to anyway. It's not like there's anything riding on any of this.

Well, I ran out of time.  I'm heading out of town so I won't be able to work on it anymore.  It's not where I'd like it but at least you get the idea.

Here's the rest of the story on this song:

Almost all of these lyrics are true and are about the time I had to rebuild my Shelby Cobra replica for an upcoming track day at Mid-Ohio.  In the song, I hit a wall to damage my car but in reality, I hit a deer on the way to work the week before.  I scrounged parts together and even fabricated some suspension components to improve handling.  I did all the corner balancing in my garage on bathroom scales and and a homemade alignment gauge.  I show up to the track and the other guys had fancy car haulers and trailers but I just drove my car there towing a small trailer with a tool box and my race tires.  (Yes, I fabricated a tow hitch for my Cobra replica.)  My car had the least horsepower of any other but handled the best.  I ended up being last down the long straight but then my car really showed them in the corners.  In fact, at lunch, Adam Andretti (nephew to Mario) pulled me assigned and asked who did my suspension setup because he had never seen a cobra kit car handle that well.  (He could be lying but he didn't have to say anything.)

This was about 8 years ago and I've since sold the car.  But, I kept the license plate and built a three-string 'cigar-box' type electric guitar out of it.  (Pic attached below)  I used that guitar for both guitar parts in this song and my torque wrench was the guest percussionist.

Anyway.... Weekend Racer

All of the damage on my race car
The brush with the wall it left more than a scar
The right front corner is just destroyed
No time or money when you're under-employed

So it's Parts from a mustang, t-bird and jeep
Most from a junk-yard, free or dirt cheap
And more fabrication to make it all fit
A rattle can paint job to make it legit

The doctors and lawyers write checks for their cars
And go to the track like they're some kind of star
But good old boys with gas in our veins
Will race them all to victory lane.

[Key change]

I pull in to the pit, towing tools and race tires
some of the parts held on with just wire
Rusted old bolts all over the place
I know that she runs, now, let's see if she'll race

A misty grey morning out on the track
all of the drivers were still in a pack
The first turns was scary, the tires were cold
Slipping and sliding could not get a hold

The doctors and lawyers write checks for their car
Drive on the track like they're some kind of star
But the good old boys with gas in our veins
Can almost smell that victory lane.

[Key change]

Down the straight with my foot to the floor
On the rev limit she just had no more
The roar of exhaust, the pack pulled away
But we came to the corner she jumped on her prey

Cutting and dicing through the whole field
Holding the line and refusing to yield
Leaping and spitting like an angry barn cat
Even Andretti's never seen one like that

The doctors and lawyers write checks for their car
To drive the track like they're some kind of star
But the good old boys with gas in our veins
Will race them all to victory lane.

[Key change back to original]

The doctors and lawyers write checks for their cars
And go to the track like they're some kind of star
But the good old boys with gas in our veins
Give them the bird from victory lane.

With great irony, I'm no sure I'll be able to 'rise above' for this challenge.  It's turning out that my ideas are bigger than my current skill-set.  I simply have NOT been able to play what I hear in my head!   :'(

If my schedule changes, I might be able to try again later but I'm not hopeful.

Edit: I just realized I may have one more shot at recording. Even if I simplify from what I wanted, it still counts, right?  ???

Also, if anyone sees that missing beat in the chorus, can you send it back my way?  I'm seems to routinely wander off when I'm trying to record the guitar part...

Woohoo!  I used DistroKid which cost me $20.  I've since made $17 so I've very nearly broken even.  You are WAY ahead of me!

I always think I'm the newbie around here (and I am, relatively speaking) but I just realized I've been on this board for over two years.  Even I recognize some of those names and think 'Oh, yeah, I remember them!'

Sing a bit...
Slide my hand up three frets....

Slide my hand up three more frets...
Struggle to sing a bit more....

So, we are looking at combination locks, for this challenge.....  ::)

 (-!)

In my head, I'm envisioning the dial of this combination lock to be the circle of fifths.   :D

What’s a key?

I play like I'm in jail. Always behind a few bars and can't find the key!

I see now that your bluegrass comment was a red herring. This is more of a green field, blue sky song now that I see it in black and white.

Thanks folks. Was not expecting that  :o   8)

Neil and I will discuss the next challenge and post something by tomorrow (Sunday). While we're waiting you might want to practice your bluegrass skills.....

I mowed today. I bet there was some bluegrass in there somewhere.  ;)
