So, since I couldn't work, I came in and spent an hour warming up.  And then decided I wanted to hear the new speakers.  Have to say, I'm very pleased with them.  Way more volume than I need, and the sound is great.  I'll be ordering another pair...

But, after spending a while getting all dressed up, and tools and jacks together, I got started on the vehicles.  But, at +4 and wind at 40mph gusting to 50, it didn't take long crawling around on the snowy/icy driveway to just give it up.  Maybe tomorrow...

Well, the fun never ends.  Few miles down the road this morning and caught a chunk of ice - took out a tie rod end on the car I just did an alignment on the other day.  Came home and got another, and the second corner I came to the power steering line came apart.  Mechanic day...  >:(

That's what I thought, Neil.  All about presentation.  ;)

I do wish they had some kind of protective screen or mesh over the speakers.  Can't wait to see how they sound...

Home again.  Didn't get the network/wi-fi finished at the school, have to go back again Thursday.

Sampson monitors are here, hopefully I can get them set up tomorrow and test them out on a mix I need to do.  They look good...

JUNE 2017 CHALLENGE - REFERENCE TRACKS - CHALLENGE CLOSED
« on: June 09, 2017, 03:17:56 PM »
This months challenge is a short one.

The closing date is 30th June 2017 - only three weeks to get something together.

This is a Production challenge.

Your song can be a new one, an old one of yours or a cover BUT you must use a reference track and the sound of your Production (not the song itself) should reflect the sound of the reference track.

No cheating using AMSS or online mastering!!

Please upload your song to the TTM Soundcloud, and post a link in this thread to your reference track (Youtube preferred) so that we can put them side by side when scoring them.

No time limits, no themes. In fact no other rules, just get that sound!!!

So you try to duplicate the sound and feel of an existing track which you use as a reference when tracking and mixing....

I LOVE this! This is exactly what I'm trying to learn!

I'm warning you all now, I will be asking for a lot of comments in the results thread. What went well, what should be different, etc. Not only do I not know what I'm doing, I find that I have a somewhat narrow view of things. I tune into some part of the reference track but completely miss some other aspect.

you probably do AG - subconsciously.
Like trying to get that sound of Tommy Emmanuel or trying to get that same feel/tone as Andy McKee.  That sort of thing.

I've never tried this before... but for years I've been told it's a good way to improve on your mixing.  8)
If.... it's a temporary lull... why am I bored right outta my skull?
Man, I'm dressin' sharp an' feelin' dull

I guess it's possible but I just listen to the music never try to play it .
Never gave their sound a second thought . Not even when I was looking for my new guitars tone . My reference in that case came from 2 unknowns over at AGF that had great sounding guitars .

Other then that I've never tried to emulate a persons sound , though I was very tempted by Spirals awesome guitar crunch tone ;)  never followed through . Lol

My subconscious won't talk to me so I can't so I can't answer any questions about it lol

The challenge this month really didn't set anyone's imagination going. (no entries or chat) so I'm going to close it and set something else for July that might whet a few appetites.

Sorry folks, misjudged challenge.

Was indeed a good challenge, Gaz!

Also, a good method for members to improve their mixing/production skills......  8)

I think it was a great one, but I have, and still do in ways, a home move going on, single handed again, thus no participation by myself.  :(  I will have no problem making it a personal challenge to post at a later date, it is a solid exercise to do for sure!  ;)

Side track question...why is it that you are always around when someone asks for some help moving, but they all disappear when ya need it?  ??? Granted, it is the 4th of July weekend here, but still... ::->

I am tired, BUT I now have a full room for the studio, YES!    (-!)
