So, since I couldn't work, I came in and spent an hour warming up.  And then decided I wanted to hear the new speakers.  Have to say, I'm very pleased with them.  Way more volume than I need, and the sound is great.  I'll be ordering another pair...

But, after spending a while getting all dressed up, and tools and jacks together, I got started on the vehicles.  But, at +4 and wind at 40mph gusting to 50, it didn't take long crawling around on the snowy/icy driveway to just give it up.  Maybe tomorrow...

Well, the fun never ends.  Few miles down the road this morning and caught a chunk of ice - took out a tie rod end on the car I just did an alignment on the other day.  Came home and got another, and the second corner I came to the power steering line came apart.  Mechanic day...  >:(

That's what I thought, Neil.  All about presentation.  ;)

I do wish they had some kind of protective screen or mesh over the speakers.  Can't wait to see how they sound...

Home again.  Didn't get the network/wi-fi finished at the school, have to go back again Thursday.

Sampson monitors are here, hopefully I can get them set up tomorrow and test them out on a mix I need to do.  They look good...

Help needed
« on: December 19, 2016, 01:35:19 PM »
I've kinda found myself being asked to record some outside events. Something I'm not too well up on and I am wondering if anyone here can recommend some reasonably priced equipment and perhaps give me a few tips on recording techniques.
Thanks in advance.

Tho I have to head ot the door for 5 days in a few, here are some questions that will help...

1. Is it music or voice (like a play, etc) that you are recording?

2. Do you NEED stereo, or can it be Mono and still be acceptable?

3. Will there me a mixing board at the events, and if so will you have access to it?

4. What are you going to record it with? Will it be a laptop, or will you need to buy a recorder?

That should give some of us the info needed to help ya out....or at least ask more questions! LOL!

1. Is it music or voice (like a play, etc) that you are recording? Mainly a choir of about 15 voices

2. Do you NEED stereo, or can it be Mono and still be acceptable? Stereo would be best

3. Will there me a mixing board at the events, and if so will you have access to it? Nothing like that

4. What are you going to record it with? Will it be a laptop, or will you need to buy a recorder? I have a laptop but I don't like the mic in it. If you can suggest better mics? but I'm sure someone was talking about some portable recorders a while back/

That should give some of us the info needed to help ya out....or at least ask more questions! LOL!

I use the Zoom H2 which has been replaced with the Zoom H2n. Check it out. Excellent quality recording but a little bit of a learning curve.

yep.  Zoom H2n is a great device,  great for outdoor or any acoustic recording really.  Its a little pricey.  has great microphone setup built-in in to the device.

H4n is a great unit there's newer models but you've heard some tunes by done on it I'm sure . Besides it's built in multi directional Mics it offers 2 XLR/ TRS Phantom powered jacks stereo , effects 4 track .

Then if you need video this might work you might be able to do audio only as well .

As to tips I think you got recording down pat ! As with all new gear just getting used to it is the thing . The zooms as a stand alone are preatty much point and shoot . There's head phone jack so you can monitor on the H4N I assume the other models as well .

I use a camera stand the H4n mounts well never tried but I will one day when I have balls enough to take my condenser Mics outside lol
