Me too RJ, I brew my own beer and distill spirits (making a really fine bourbon these days) and have just started wine making. My peach wine is a peach, as  we wine makers say, very drinkable, with a hint of peach. Can't remember tho last time I was drunk,  not because I was drunk, just too long ago

I'm an avid homebrewer with a few beers on tap at all times.  Having said that, I hate even feeling tipsy let alone drunk.  So I'm like Whitestrat in that I may have 1 or 2 over the course of an evening but that's it.

Never been much of a drinker. I don't abstain, but 1 or 2 drinks, over a couple of hours, is more than enough for me....
You might be right, neil....  :P

Alcohol is so very "college" for me.  I drank a lot of it back in college.  Didn't drink any in HS. After graduate school, it became sort of ho-hum.  Now, occasionally I'll have a beer at a restaurant with dinner. I don't even keep them at the house.  Now, Diet Coke on the other hand...

Used to drink soda (pop) a long time back, but got so I didn't care for anything carbonated.  I do miss a good Root Beer once in a while - with ice cream...

Yeah, but I gave up alcohol back in the early '70's.  Been coffee ever since.  4-5 cups an hour when I'm home, 2-3 an hour when I'm out working.  Every place I work knows they get a better deal if they keep coffee handy...

Alcohol would seem more appropriate...a lot of alcohol ::)

FEBRUARY 2018 CHALLENGE - MODES
« on: February 10, 2018, 01:25:28 PM »
Its not what you think!!

So I had thought that it would be a good idea to go for a technical challenge, as I don't understand theory and anything that would force me to learn would be worthwhile.  However, even trying to set the challenge blew my mind so I drew back and the challenge is:

Write and record a new song that links to mode(s) in some way.

Lots of options - modes of transport, fashion etc.  You don't have to include the word but if you don't please explain the link when you post.

Any style, any time signature, any length (within reason).

No turnips are to change hands between entrants or voters - any evidence of root vegetable abuse will lead to immediate disqualification.

Up load to Soundcloud as usual by midnight wherever you are on 28th February 2018.

That's it! Good luck everyone.

Not sure I like the anti turnip rule though  :P

My "studio" is getting a slight renovation so we'll see if I get it back together but some of the changes will help my recordings. I'm excited!

Modes? I like it! So, if we did a community effort, would that be a com-mode?  Hmm, my mind's in the toilet tonight.

Okay, modes it is. I'll have to mull over that one a bit.

I’m 98% done.

I tried something different I’d never done for a challenge before. I’ll tell all after the complete has finished, otherwise it might distract the listener 😆

So, can I use musical modes? I'm trying to improve my theory knowledge anyway.

Just to verify, this can be about a "mode of" something. So, a mode of transportation, mode of thought, etc., but doesn't have to necessarily mention the word "mode", correct?

I made a schoolboy error.

After listening back to my rough mix - after about the tenth time, I realised I sing the word “node”. Not “mode”.

In the context of the song it makes little difference. But in accordance to the specific nature of the challenge criteria, then it’s a bit of a blunder.

My wife thought I said "mowed".  She commented that it was a rather specific theme this month!
