Plus, all my stuff is cheap, so nothing would be a great loss. I'd rather they play with it than lock it all up safely. It's just stuff...

My nephews (4 & 8) had a great time with the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, kick drum pedal, tambourine, & microphone. Music was made for sure!

For the last month or so, we've had to travel to either my wife's family or mine for various reasons. Today, some of them are coming here for the weekend. Don't they know I have an ODC song to record?!?

Rise Above - June 2018 challenge
« on: June 03, 2018, 01:16:02 AM »
This month's challenge should be easy. The idea came from my own personal catastrophe this weekend. I locked up some of my tools on site before I left work on Friday afternoon. I trust its safe enough and normally it would be. Saturday morning I received a call, telling me the place burned to the ground. My tools are gone along with the next few weeks of work. Insurance will cover the tools eventually but I'm out a few thousand dollars of work that doesn't get replaced. This job is over. I'll be scrambling to try to reschedule the next projects earlier but its not promising. The upside for me is, I didn't lose 10,000 hogs in the fire like the client did.

So the challenge for this month is to write a new song about a (somewhat) devastating personal catastrophe and how you overcame it. Put a positive spin on it, the silver lining. If your life has been uneventful in that way, I guess you'll have to write a fictional piece.

Also, your song must include two key changes. These changes must be 3 semitones each and cannot revert to the original key. Example, if the songs starts in the key of G, your next change would be Bb and then C#. Minimum limit for each key change will be 16 measures. No time limit on the song and loops, samples, collabs, instrumentals are not restricted.

Deadline will be 28 June 2018 @7:53 am

Blame Neil for your struggles this month.  (-!)

Wow, that's a tough challenge! Unfortunately, with work being the way it is right now, I probably won't be able to compete in this one.

Good luck everyone! I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

I see now that your bluegrass comment was a red herring. This is more of a green field, blue sky song now that I see it in black and white.

What's a key? As a drummer I've always asked that but none of the real musicians told me.

What’s a key?

I play like I'm in jail. Always behind a few bars and can't find the key!

A nice easy one for us aye G,  ??? :P geeez, key changes, that takes music theory and stuff, ....if i may, can i get the good Rev to explain the extent of my music training, ..........over to you Rev old chap.......

If you make it to the end of this video [it is actually quite good], watch the strings on the guitar, it wavers in a very bizzare way, like a sine wave, its a phenominom that video cameras exhibit, its got to do with the frame rate of the camera, looks awesome.

What's a key?

Last I heard, they're things you use to open locks!
