It's a rainy day today in East Texas. Nice day to just relax and read a book. I took some time to build a small recording accessory, but mostly just chilling. Might take the wife out to dinner in a bit. If I play my cards right... ;D

I've said for years that it's too bad we're all so far away.  I have made such good friends here over the years, and will never get to even shake their hands...  :(

Coffee would be great, Ag.  Too bad we're so far away.  Weather is suddenly getting lots better here, snow and ice and those 3ft banks should be melting down soon...

Still shoveling, Ag.  These last 3 weeks have been the worst of the winter, with a dozen other problems tossed in.  I could whine about it for hours...  :P

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / Re: April '18 ODC - SPRING BREAK!!!!

I have had something brewing as I test Bandlab Cakewalk

Only problem I realised is that it is deceptively similar to the Jason Mraz - 93 Million Miles song.    Ouch!!!!.

I will have to try a different tack.

Five more days. Hopefully you guys will be posting something. It'll suck if there are only two of us this month!

Heck no! Either way, this would be my highest ranking!  :D

Still no interface hmmmm ...
Anyway figure I’d mention my recording desk is on hold lol boy can a make a project last haha 😆

So now I’ve demolishing my entertainment center . It was more of a look at the stuff on the shelf’s kind of wall unit then a functional entertainment unit in other words it was for old folks ! Lol

Some of you seen on it Facebook but I thought I’d share here if anyone else is interested in what’s been hogging some of my time .

Now to what my plans are for it . The unit was just wood frame covered in drywall with 9 block squares as you’ll see in the pics .

For me this design was not functional. It could only hold a 42” TV set , the shelf depth was not deep enough for stereo components and there only room for book shelf speakers .

No way to run wires for components.

I stripped out the drywall and shelf’s which was a pain see they build these walls on a table then set them in so any screws were facing backwards toward other walls so no easy to get them out less a saws all lol

The new unit will a larger section for the Tv with storage compartments for components underneath. Two side compartments for tower speakers cabinets above each of those and then cabinets across the top .

There will be a secondary shelf above the Tv for a center channel speaker .

This is going to have T&G yellow pine stained a Cherry oak as will the whole unit . I just hope it turns out good lol

General Recording Dicussions / Re: How do you record electric guitar?
« Last post by BoneDigger on April 21, 2018, 02:39:09 PM »
I realize this is an older post, but I thought I would chime in. I use DI for guitars and bass, including electric (though I'm mostly acoustic). I run the guitar straight into the interface and use an amp simulator. Personally, I use Guitar Rig 5. It works well for my needs and came as part of a midi package I purchased last year.

I just generally play around with different amps and effects until I find the sound I am looking for.  For me, the electric is more background than lead. I try to use it sparingly, though I rarely succeed. For the rare instances when I use an electric in any kind of lead, I generally shoot for something like what you might find on a Gordon Lightfoot song. Take a close listen to Baby Step Back or Sundown as a good example. Nothing too flashy, just good solid tones.

I'm fairly new to all this, so take anything I recommend with a grain of salt.

How about finding a MIDI track of the tune and beat it into shape.....?
 (-!)

I might have to. The song is Manhattan Skyline by a-ha. It’s strange cos I was never particularly taken to it at the time (1986) but I’ve been listening to their albums of late (which I never had before) and while some is a bit twee and bland, they did write some truely great music. And this one has a great contrast between quiet and gentle verses to epic guitar riff choruses.

General Recording Dicussions / Re: How do you record drums?

Another 'trick', is to search out a MIDI tune that has a drum track similar to your needs. Import it to your DAW, where it should split to individual instruments. Keep the drums and modify to taste..... ;)
Just having a track that guides you along the right path can help you build your own track....
