I can relate, Smurf.  Yesterday I made it 10-12 miles at 20mph before I turned around and came back.  Icy ruts pulling the car all over, and twice pulled me onto the center line with semi's coming the other way.  Scary...

Just had to turn around & come home from my sleep study tonight....super bad roads + ice + nothing but hills, valleys and drop-offs for 18 miles of the trip....no thanks! :P

Sampson monitors are supposed to be here UPS tomorrow sometime.  I have to go do a network job at a school, so I won't get to try them out till Wednesday.  But I have some mixing to do, so I'll let y'all know how they work...

I know, right?  I used to climb right in there.  Not anymore.

Two years ago I had to pull the exhaust manifold and some other things just to get to the back 3 plugs on one of the cars just to do a tuneup.

I hear ya Joom...our old 1/2 tons you could climb in beside the engine and almost close the hood,,, now you have to almost remove the motor to change a fan belt lol

I've got a pile of tools and testers that weren't even thought of 50 years ago.  Aside from basic drive train axle stuff, you have to start with an OBD tester just to know what might be going on.

I've always said I'd love to have a 1965 'anything' in good shape to fix up and drive...

Things have definitely changed a lot from back in the day of simple carburetors and distributors with points, Buster.  I could fix most things on the road with a few tools.  Not any more...

You guys are doing well. The 1st car I owned I took out the engine and gearbox, removed all the parts, had the engine o'hauled, put it all back in, re-timed it and drove it away. The new truck, I can't name a single thing under the hood.

And yeah, garage and pole barn, both full of motorcycles and dirt bikes, mowers, and a ton of other crap.  Been promising myself to clean them out for a long time and give myself a work area...

Same here, Red.  Back in the 70's before I got into computers I was a licensed mechanic, and I still refuse to pay somebody else to do what I can do.  Most of the time...

I'm with you Joom. I do all our car maintenance, have a 3 car garage and can't park a single car in it.  :/

Only -2 here today, not too cold.  But just finished 3 hours laying on ice doing a front end alignment on one of the cars.  That got cold.  Really need to clean out the garage...

At Our Favorite Price Point™....Video Stuff?!
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:23:43 PM »
I have been playing around with some video and, of course, looking for free stuff that works. ATM I am using a Dell 17" core2Duo 2.50GHz with 4GB memory, so the stuff also has to be system friendly.....

I have settled on some that works OK, and is semi-easy to figure out...

1. Lightworks 11.5.1 - The free version makes you sign in every week, and only exports at "you tube" 720p level, but this version of the software runs solid. It is NOT a program that you will jump into & go, it works different than any of the "commercial" ones I have used. Grab all the free tutorials from the site, including the Dialog Demo Project, and you will have a grip in no time.

2. VSDC Software - VSDC Free Video Editor, Converter, and  Screen Recorder software are also not a "jump in and go" type of software, but all 3 work great. The Editor's Green Screen is the best free one I have used, and Screen Recorder software is way ahead of  Camstudio, both in ease of setup and video file.

And what good is this stuff without something to play with? Well, I found about a 3rd of the sites That Are Listed On This Page before I found the page, but it is still nice to have them all in one place. A couple are no more, but most, including the Blender projects, are still active.

The first one I found was Valkaama. I gabbed the HD version of the completed film, watched it, and started the downloads. The downloads include ALL the takes used in the movie, so you try your had at Producing & Editing a real movie, script, posters, DVD case & label....everything...INCLUDING Scoring it.....

It took me over 2 weeks to grab the 176GB of files, but it is going to be SO worth it to play with.

Did I mention that most all the movie footage listed is licensed under the  Creative Commons
Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0)
, making it absolutely free to use in any way you want to? You can use clips from them in YOUR Music Videos, Movies, etc..and most you can also make $$ with.. :o..outstanding!  :P

Anyway, I just wanted to share. If any of this has been posted elsewhere, please ignore me, I have been out of touch for a few and am sure I have missed a ton.  :'(

Enjoy!!  8)

Howdy folks, it's good to see ya! I miss the place, but life has got in the way at the moment.....

And it figures that an hour after I post about Lightworks I start getting the same error that I have got every time I have tried it...

No Media Drive  :o

It keeps losing the link to it....Grrrrrr.. >:(..I LIKE Lightworks, but this is driving me nuts.... ???

Oh well, back to trying to figure it out.... :P

And if it worse comes to worse I have Magix Video Pro 5 to fall back on, but I hate installing Magix's bloat on my system! ;D  8)
