That's what I thought, Neil.  All about presentation.  ;)

I do wish they had some kind of protective screen or mesh over the speakers.  Can't wait to see how they sound...

Home again.  Didn't get the network/wi-fi finished at the school, have to go back again Thursday.

Sampson monitors are here, hopefully I can get them set up tomorrow and test them out on a mix I need to do.  They look good...

I can relate, Smurf.  Yesterday I made it 10-12 miles at 20mph before I turned around and came back.  Icy ruts pulling the car all over, and twice pulled me onto the center line with semi's coming the other way.  Scary...

Sampson monitors are supposed to be here UPS tomorrow sometime.  I have to go do a network job at a school, so I won't get to try them out till Wednesday.  But I have some mixing to do, so I'll let y'all know how they work...

I know, right?  I used to climb right in there.  Not anymore.

Two years ago I had to pull the exhaust manifold and some other things just to get to the back 3 plugs on one of the cars just to do a tuneup.

I hear ya Joom...our old 1/2 tons you could climb in beside the engine and almost close the hood,,, now you have to almost remove the motor to change a fan belt lol

I've got a pile of tools and testers that weren't even thought of 50 years ago.  Aside from basic drive train axle stuff, you have to start with an OBD tester just to know what might be going on.

I've always said I'd love to have a 1965 'anything' in good shape to fix up and drive...

Things have definitely changed a lot from back in the day of simple carburetors and distributors with points, Buster.  I could fix most things on the road with a few tools.  Not any more...

You guys are doing well. The 1st car I owned I took out the engine and gearbox, removed all the parts, had the engine o'hauled, put it all back in, re-timed it and drove it away. The new truck, I can't name a single thing under the hood.

And yeah, garage and pole barn, both full of motorcycles and dirt bikes, mowers, and a ton of other crap.  Been promising myself to clean them out for a long time and give myself a work area...

Same here, Red.  Back in the 70's before I got into computers I was a licensed mechanic, and I still refuse to pay somebody else to do what I can do.  Most of the time...

I'm with you Joom. I do all our car maintenance, have a 3 car garage and can't park a single car in it.  :/

Open DAW Challenge (the ODC) / May 17 Life Challenge
« on: May 07, 2017, 12:44:04 AM »
Life has turned upside down for us lately, causing us to contemplate the value of life and think about what it means to us. This will be the challenge for this month.

Starting now, part 1 of the challenge is write a new song about what life means to you.
Part 2  is change it up completely midway through. This change should not be subtle. This could be a change in lyrics, tempo, time signature,  key,  instrumentation,  but part 2 must be a cohesive part of 1. Make it make sense with each other.

Song length not to exceed 5 min.
Upload to the usual location by 29 May 2017.
No other restrictions.

Good luck!

Completed Original Songs / The Wolf
« on: December 05, 2016, 02:44:17 AM »
I'm calling it done....this is one I need to get out of my head. Too dark in there right now. Got some perfectly appropriate tracks from Dino to finish it off.

The Wolf

Wake up in the morning and something  don't feel right
Feel like  I've been running, running all night
Look in the mirror and all I see
Is a hungry wolf staring back at me
I don't know if I can win this fight
I'm so tired of fighting for my life

Now I’m thinking all about the dream I had last night
Can’t get away from that gleam in his eye
Feel him breathing hot on my neck
He’s getting close but he ain't got me yet
I don't know if I can win this fight
I'm so tired of fighting for my life

Well, my baby girl and her man love their song, and a bunch of the people they've shown off to.

There are obviously some thing that need fixing but I'm hoping to get some feedback from you guys on this so far.

In an effort to get myself a little motivated, I shook the dust off an old one that needed, and still does, a lot of work. A few hours of tweaking and rerecording got me this far. A small sense of accomplishment, I suppose. @Joom lyrics and the rest is me.

Comments welcome

This Chris Isaak cheater is from '09. It's likely you could hear a version of it on my live performances soon.

Enjoy!

Battle of the Bands / BOTB 2016 voting
« on: July 16, 2016, 03:18:42 PM »
BOTB 2016 has proven to be interesting for different reasons but we've made it through. Great big thanks to everyone participating. Sadly, real life circumstances eliminated one of our teams, so we're down to choosing a winner between only two.

Quote
The theme for this BOTB is "Still the same". Write a new song about whatever that means to you.

The poll will be running for 7 days. Any visitors, friends, or family wishing to vote can email to papagee1 (at) live.ca. BOTB 2016 in the subject header.
