That's what I thought, Neil.  All about presentation.  ;)

I do wish they had some kind of protective screen or mesh over the speakers.  Can't wait to see how they sound...

Home again.  Didn't get the network/wi-fi finished at the school, have to go back again Thursday.

Sampson monitors are here, hopefully I can get them set up tomorrow and test them out on a mix I need to do.  They look good...

I can relate, Smurf.  Yesterday I made it 10-12 miles at 20mph before I turned around and came back.  Icy ruts pulling the car all over, and twice pulled me onto the center line with semi's coming the other way.  Scary...

I know, right?  I used to climb right in there.  Not anymore.

Two years ago I had to pull the exhaust manifold and some other things just to get to the back 3 plugs on one of the cars just to do a tuneup.

I've got a pile of tools and testers that weren't even thought of 50 years ago.  Aside from basic drive train axle stuff, you have to start with an OBD tester just to know what might be going on.

I've always said I'd love to have a 1965 'anything' in good shape to fix up and drive...

Things have definitely changed a lot from back in the day of simple carburetors and distributors with points, Buster.  I could fix most things on the road with a few tools.  Not any more...

You guys are doing well. The 1st car I owned I took out the engine and gearbox, removed all the parts, had the engine o'hauled, put it all back in, re-timed it and drove it away. The new truck, I can't name a single thing under the hood.

And yeah, garage and pole barn, both full of motorcycles and dirt bikes, mowers, and a ton of other crap.  Been promising myself to clean them out for a long time and give myself a work area...

Same here, Red.  Back in the 70's before I got into computers I was a licensed mechanic, and I still refuse to pay somebody else to do what I can do.  Most of the time...

General Discussion / BiaB Video Tracks?!
« on: January 09, 2018, 06:18:05 PM »
Here is the newest thing from band In A Box....video tracks of the players playing the tracks. Joanne from the PG forum created a video using them that you can check out here....

I would have focused on the track end of things in BiaB, but that is me. The videos ccould be fun, as she shows.

Anyhoo, just a fun little post! 8)

« on: December 25, 2017, 03:02:14 AM »
Well, even tho I did NOT buy this & wrap it up for y'all, it IS at Our Favorite Price Point™.... ;)

I have wanted a Hang Drum VSTi for a few years, but most of what I have found has been lacking. Tonight I ran across this one by Ample Sound called the Ample Percussion Cloudrum.

It says Free on the front page of the site, but since I just loaded it a few hours ago I can not say for sure. They also have Lite Versions of a P-Bass & Acoustic VSTi for Download.

I hope everyone has a good Christmas tomorrow, and don't eat too much!  (-!)

Enjoy!  8)

DAW Plugins / AirMusic Hybrid 3 for a buck!
« on: December 13, 2017, 08:07:05 PM »
Check it out here....

https://www.pluginboutique.com/deals/show?sale_id=3556

I just udated / upgraded all my AIR stuff, but I can say if you see ANY of the AIR VSTi's out there cheap, jump on them! This synth has a lot of sounds that can be used for leads or pads, and it is easy to tweak.

I know, I know, it is NOT At Our Favorite Price Point™, but a buck is almost as good, eh? :P

Hope This Helps! 8)

DAW Plugins / A New Free Amp From Plektron
« on: September 03, 2017, 07:02:00 PM »
Plektron has released a new Free amp based on, what else, it's newest amp....

http://www.plektronfx.com/index.php

This is one of those Free-B's some like, some hate (like the FreeAmp series) I am in the usable camp. I have NOT had a chance to play with it yet, but overall it is worth the price of admission IMHO...

DAWs / Tracktion 6 is now Free
« on: September 03, 2017, 03:03:04 PM »
Hey folks, I just grabbed Tracktion 6, the Full Version, for Free. They have always had a full free version, but now it is just one release away from their flagship version.

Window, Mac, AND Linux versions....YES! ::->

Not really my cup of tea, tho I do play with it every now & then to get an idea down. No matter how you feel about it, there is now a pretty modern DAW At Our Favorite Price Point, and that can not be a bad thing, right?!

Hope This Helps! 8)

Other / Drums Old & New....
« on: August 08, 2017, 06:37:03 PM »
Hey Folks, just a quick post about a couple New & Old Drum VSTi's.

New to me....

Sean Pandy Drums.....

http://free.chokehold.net/sean-pandy-drums/

A VERY heavy Rock / Metal sample set that works well with the following old favorite...

MTPower Drum Kit.....

http://www.powerdrumkit.com/

The big news about MTPower Drum Kit is no more net registration, YES! Ya just have to press a "Skip" button at startup, which means you can load this on more than one system very easily. Since my studio system does not get on the net, I have had to do without this plug in for a few, but now I can load it on my System AND my laptop without net access.

MTPower Drum Kit also has a fantastic selection of Midi loops to build a good sounding drum track. Tho only 4/4 & 6/8, it does cover a lot of area IMHO.

Oh, and did I mention that BOTH of these are At Our Favorite Price Point™?  ~:)

Anyhoo, it has been a long time since I posted anything about VST-VSTi's  (!:) (I think we found all the good ones!) and this thread needed some cobwebs blown off of it...  ;)

Other / Sonic Anomaly VST / JSFX Plugins
« on: April 15, 2017, 04:30:23 AM »
I used a couple of these this month for the TTM ODC (Leet Delay 2, Bass Professor & S.LA.X) and liked what I heard. These also integrate with Reaper very solidly....I had zero problems with them, where the VST version of S.LA.X had some GUI glitching on the same tracks. Just read the site and see why this is so.....

The Delay is a smooth sounding one, with some grit to the tails. It sounds pretty cool on clean tracks, like vocals & acoustic guitars.

Bass Professor really does rock a DI bass signal, and I also liked it on floor toms & kick drum, tho I think I like it on bass more. It really made the Bronco with flat-wound strings stand out compared to the T12 with round-wounds, tho both sounded better using it.

Overall, some good plugins At Our Favorite Price Point™! 8)

Other / Darbuka-Nut Percussion Instrument
« on: April 04, 2017, 03:05:55 AM »
I was out looking for some different percussion stuff for this months challenge and re-ran across this VSTi called darbuka-nut. This is a Middle Eastern hand drum that can add some fun feels to tracks.

I have an older copy of Volko Alaturka Drum which I love for certain things, so I figured that this would be worth grabbing again....and it was.

It is also At Our Favorite Price Point™, so ya have nothing to lose, right? ;)

Other / Amp Sims, EQ's, Effects OH MY!
« on: March 26, 2017, 07:06:43 AM »
Black Rooster Audio  has a few cool downloads, a low watt amp sim called the Cypress TT-15. It has a 2x12 cab with it, but you can use other IR's (for this months track I had to fall back on the computer, and this was the first amp sim I opened & combined it with the Boogiex IR's).

There is also HP-LP called VHL-3C filter that has character, and a plugin just for us drummers called The Canary, which was used also this month. This plugin has been mentioned before, but hey, it is not bad to be reminded, eh?!

The one con is that you have to take a few min and register, which is a fair trade off for 3 good plugin's IMHO! :P

AXP has a Sansamp+ clone called SoftAmp PSA that sounds great on bass if I may say so.  ~:)  Also, take a peek at his Projects Page all you git-fiddle players..... ;)

And, of course, these are all At Our Favorite Price Point™..... (!:)

Enjoy!  8)

Member Blogs / A Peek Behind The Curtain.....
« on: March 26, 2017, 06:25:13 AM »
High Folks! Pay no attention to all the smoke, I'm not trying to quit... ???

Anyhoo, this year has been a doozy/gooder so fer, but there HAS been a few bright spots...

How about 3 stand alone recorders....for less than $155?! 2 Zoom's, a MRS-4 4-Trk AND a 1044 10-Trk HDD recorder, along with a Fostex MR8 MKII 8-Trk....nice!

(I tucked the poor 'lil 'ol Korg in at the top so it did not get an adequacy complex..... ;) :P  )

The Fostex's guitar effects suck, the reverbs are decent, AND it & the MRS-4 do not have Phantom Power, where the 1044 does. The 1044's Drum & Bass Instruments are fun to work with, but a bear to string into a song.....so far....

The 1044 has your typical Zoom Guitar & Bass Effects for the period, and some decent Vocal Chains. Both Zooms have 10 Virtual Tracks to use, cool  (-!), but both also only have a 2-Band Eq, NOT cool!  )(?

Also added since Jan 1 is an Alesis Nanoverb, Behringer B1 mic, and the best toy of all,  some Roland TD-4 Upgrades.....NOW the kit is playable!  ;D

Life, once again, has got in the way of my fun so my March TTM ODC will not be completed on time, so I decided to post it here because I like the track.....the Fostex is used to record the Drums & Bass.

Enjoy! 8)

Bigcat Instruments has a Free Orchestra Instrument (among other VSTi's) available that sounds pretty darn good. It is based off of the VSCO 2.1 Community Edition Orchestra, an Orchestra Library I have not thought of in awhile.

Layer this with the The Sonatina Orchestra and you can get some outstanding, full sounds. (Please Read This)

Also, THIS Collection is created from all the above, plus more. I have not tried this out yet, but it is also destined to find a home on me HDD..... :P

And of course ALL of this is At Our Favorite Price Point.

If you are looking for yet another orchestra to add to your collection, then these are the ones to get IMHO. I have to say the demos sounds outstanding to my ear......and yes, I am grabbing them as I type!  ;)

General Discussion / The Basslet
« on: February 09, 2017, 01:52:35 PM »
For years we drummers have enjoyed a little toy called a ButtKicker. There are a few different companies out there making this item, and it is used in a lot of places besides drum thrones.

SO it was just a matter of time until the Basslet would come along, eh?  ;)

It looks interesting, but I do question the effect of long term use on the wrist......only time will tell me guesses!  :P 8)
