That's what I thought, Neil.  All about presentation.  ;)

I do wish they had some kind of protective screen or mesh over the speakers.  Can't wait to see how they sound...

Home again.  Didn't get the network/wi-fi finished at the school, have to go back again Thursday.

Sampson monitors are here, hopefully I can get them set up tomorrow and test them out on a mix I need to do.  They look good...

I can relate, Smurf.  Yesterday I made it 10-12 miles at 20mph before I turned around and came back.  Icy ruts pulling the car all over, and twice pulled me onto the center line with semi's coming the other way.  Scary...

Sampson monitors are supposed to be here UPS tomorrow sometime.  I have to go do a network job at a school, so I won't get to try them out till Wednesday.  But I have some mixing to do, so I'll let y'all know how they work...

I know, right?  I used to climb right in there.  Not anymore.

Two years ago I had to pull the exhaust manifold and some other things just to get to the back 3 plugs on one of the cars just to do a tuneup.

I hear ya Joom...our old 1/2 tons you could climb in beside the engine and almost close the hood,,, now you have to almost remove the motor to change a fan belt lol

I've got a pile of tools and testers that weren't even thought of 50 years ago.  Aside from basic drive train axle stuff, you have to start with an OBD tester just to know what might be going on.

I've always said I'd love to have a 1965 'anything' in good shape to fix up and drive...

Things have definitely changed a lot from back in the day of simple carburetors and distributors with points, Buster.  I could fix most things on the road with a few tools.  Not any more...

You guys are doing well. The 1st car I owned I took out the engine and gearbox, removed all the parts, had the engine o'hauled, put it all back in, re-timed it and drove it away. The new truck, I can't name a single thing under the hood.

And yeah, garage and pole barn, both full of motorcycles and dirt bikes, mowers, and a ton of other crap.  Been promising myself to clean them out for a long time and give myself a work area...

Same here, Red.  Back in the 70's before I got into computers I was a licensed mechanic, and I still refuse to pay somebody else to do what I can do.  Most of the time...

I'm with you Joom. I do all our car maintenance, have a 3 car garage and can't park a single car in it.  :/

Thanks Joom.

I'll need to check it out properly when I've got my laptop out and eveything plugged in.

If you have any questions on anything, Kev, just holler...

I couldn't find an option for changing the audio source in my webcam software.

You should be able to do it in your "Recording Devices", Kev.  Right click on your webcam mic and temporarily "Disable" it, and make sure your regular mic is enabled.  You get there by right-clicking on the speaker in your system tray, or by choosing "Sound" from your Control Panel.  If you're doing something that involves more than that, let me know...

Once I figure how to stream via my webcam and have it not sound like crap I will.

Turn off webcam mic, and use your good one?

Sorry, Kev, I'm sure you knew that...  ;D

As someone who came of age in the Sixties, I have to say I had a slightly different take when I saw the title of this thread.....

 :P :P :P

I've thought that ever since I first saw it and bought it, JM.  Never good when you tell people "Yeah, I use Acid".

Then again, it seems a little odd to most people who ask how you make music and you say "I use Reason".  Sounds like you're bragging about your intelligence.  ;D

And then you have the people who ask what you used to make a song and you say "DAW", because they think you're saying "DUH" and get offended...  ???

This year I just went for the Plus Pak, then added the 49 Pak & Xtra Styles Pak 4......saved some $$ this way, but I miss the HDD.. ;D

I even have a key chain now!  :o  :P  ::->

Also, the new Real Tracks Video Sets....I can see the ones included being used in a vid, but I don't think I would buy any of the extra ones at the moment.  ;)  8)

I didn't get any extras, Smurf, just the standard ultra pak.  Got it ordered, but don't know when it will be here.  7 to 14 days, I reckon.  But I do have a keychain...  :P

DAWs / Acid is back...
« on: January 08, 2018, 12:20:36 AM »
Hey, after 7 years they finally came out with an update to Sony Acid Pro, my oldest and (at one time) favorite DAW.  Add one more upgrade to the list.

I have DAW's I like better now, but I have to have this one for old times sake...   (-!)

Very cool.  :)

My two youngest granddaughters are 11 and 13 (sisters), and I gave them an organ for Christmas to try getting them into music.  Maybe by this time next year I'll be able to get a recording of them...

Congrats, Jm.  I'm only 15 into my 3rd (and last) one.

-  I still like that old line:

Q:  Congratulations on your 40th anniversary, to what do you attribute the longevity?
A:  Well, I took my wife on a trip to New Zealand for our honeymoon, and this year I'm going back to pick her up.

General Discussion / Re: Back to work again.
« on: January 07, 2018, 07:21:47 PM »
I'm 72 and have had 7 years of interesting and fulfilling retirement but I'm feeling the need to be 'useful' again and I wanted to do something on a daily basis that would meet that need but still allow me time for other pleasures.
I searched locally for something like this and finally found and ad for the job I have taken. Some may laugh but I feel excited about starting when the schools go back in Jan 18.
Wish me luck as I become a 'lollipop man' https://tpdal.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Lollipop-Man.jpg

Good luck, W, and have fun.  Maybe that's why I'm still doing client work.  Retired from full time work 9 years ago and 74 in a couple months, but can't quit feeling the need to be at least semi productive.  And the extra money helps.  Social Security and Medicare just don't cut it, and I don't like spending retirement savings if I don't have to.  And being retired, I can pick and choose who I still want to work for, which is really nice.  It also allows me time to help out people in the local area (community) with computer stuff for free, and do the same for a few local non-profit businesses.

Let us know how it goes, mate...

Get everything fixed on the site here from the hacks, get all the things on the website I've let slide updated, and make some %$#@!*$ music again.  Hopefully with some of the crew here.

Also have to spend this year's income on program updates.  Upgraded to Reason 10 a month or so ago, now have to upgrade BiaB to 2018 UltraPak, 3 other DAWs, 6 video editors, and 11 other programs - so far.  Then have to spend 2018 making good use of them.

Oh, and hopefully play a round of golf.  Along with all the client work I can't seem to let go of.  You'd think at almost 74 a guy could just sit home all day and mess with music...  (-!)
