Lemmy ... what more needs to be said?
« on: August 18, 2013, 06:37:26 AM »
Just started watching this Youtube clip.

Classic humour - I'd tag it as Stoke-on-Trent working-class if  I was being parochial - but just classic "Brit" humour.

Check out the one-liner which builds from about 3'40"

The scary thing is that I can relate to being into history, reading, and being entranced by video games - not that I'm into buying war memorabilia or for my gaming that I'm any good, or bashing me liver senseless with booze - but for all of his hard rock pheck-ewe persona, there's a bloke with a brain who actually does give a rat's arse albeit not about "the establishment", and I respect that a lot.

Neil, I have 23 minutes to go of "Lemmy - The Movie", and I have enjoyed every minute so far. \m/  :)

Mate, it's Spiral's fault.. I never was much for head-bangin' pheck-ewe attitudes but when I see the point of something, when I get, I latch onto it.

It's taken me a while, mind :)

Gotta ease myself into an album or two, I think...

You gotta watch that second link I posted, Ray. It repeats a little of the one you posted but not too much. Some great stories, testimonials and a lot of insight into the bloke. He is one mean sonuvvabitch bass player too, which helps. I really dig "unconventional" bass-playing.

You got it Schprock...the complete antithesis of the Beavis and Butthead generation of so called "rock stars"....
His autobiography is a pretty good read too... :)

Love the Dave Grohl quote re: supermodels in Paris lol
Pretty much sums up what he's all about :P

It's just a pity he's more famous for being "Lemmy", the personality, than for the music he's made for the last 40 odd years.....
It's basically hyped up rock'n'roll with all the dials on 11 ;)

Something else worth a look is the Classic Albums Episode on Ace Of Spades....

For something lighter...check out Headcat....rockabilly heaven :P

BTW they're just finishing what will be their 21st Studio Album...38 years down the line :)

Lemmy is one of a kind. Unashamedly hedonistic, benevolent, live and let live kinda guy.
And way underrated as a lyricist. Schprocket, you should definitely check out his later albums as well (although Ace of Spades is a good place to start), he has some pretty great lines.

"You might be a financial wizard,
With a sack of loot,
All I see is a slimy lizard,
With an expensive suit,
Go on and run your corporation,
Go and kiss some ass,
You might buy half of the nation,
But you can't buy class."

Besides Ace of Spades, I would recommend 1916. Brilliant album.

1916
"16 years old when I went to the war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier,
We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we girld 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
The day not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names,
And that's how it is for a soldier."

Spiral, I bought 1916 whilst waiting for the train.  I reckon I would have had a harder time getting into it had I not watched the documentaries.

But yeah,  Motorhead rock \m/ I enjoyed listening to it :)
